First Responders Pass Life-Saving Skills To Local Residents
Community awareness sessions on CPR & Defibrillation to help improve cardiac arrest survival
The Five Villages First Responders (FVFR) team have been busy over recent weeks delivering life-saving skills awareness sessions to residents of our local villages. Volunteer Community First Responders have led sessions in West Stockwith, Walkeringham and Belton so far, where they have shown attendees vital skills including how to recognise a cardiac arrest and how to perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The sessions have also included information about where our local Community Public Access Defibrillators are located and how to use one, as well as a chance to practice these potentially life-saving skills.
Martyn Johnson, FVFR Coordinator said: "Our team have done a fantastic job demonstrating to our community these skills including CPR and using a defibrillator. In the case of a sudden cardiac arrest, someone knowing what to do and acting quickly to start chest compressions and use a defibrillator if one is available can significantly improve the patients chance of survival. As most cardiac arrests happen in the home, it could be a family member that needs help, and therefore as many people as possible who know what to do can be truly life-saving. Thank you to all of our team who have been involved in these sessions and to all the members of the community who have taken time to attend and learn or refresh these skills."
Further CPR & Defibrillator sessions will be running and full details will be shared on our website and social media.
